The second installment released in 1999 is considered a sci-fi horror masterpiece and has been credited with inspiring such fan favorites as BioShock. Naturally, with it being a remaster, this iteration of System Shock will be a more up-to-date version of the much-loved 90’s horror shooter. System Shock remake gets a final demo today ahead of summer launch Those who do will be treated to a free copy of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. As well as the demo, fans can also pre-order the full game. Ahead of the release (which is expected to be this summer) the studio released a new demo which is available to download from Steam today.Īcording to Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick, the demo includes a number of new features, while still staying faithful to the original. On both, there is some shader cache stuttering at times, but it’s not bad at all, and the framerate blips are minor while it happens. After launching their Kickstarter in 2016, Nightdive Studios are almost ready to launch their remaster of the classic horror FPS game System Shock. In terms of how it performs on desktop Linux, I tested it on Fedora 37 (KDE spin) and it performs very well on maximum settings there as well. They still need to work on the new controller support a little bit more, as the acceleration and sensitivity on the thumb-stick are wildly off, but it’s a good start. I gave it a try on Steam Deck and was pleasantly surprised I expected a game like this to perform poorly given that it’s a demo of an unfinished game, but even on Medium details, it runs surprisingly well. It’s unclear whether they’ll continue to produce a Native Linux version. To play it on Linux / Steam Deck, you must go into the Properties -> Compatibility menu and force Proton, as they’ve left up an apparently old Linux launch configuration that’s just empty and downloads nothing. After going through development hell and being delayed for a long time, Nightdive Studios has released a new demo of their System Shock remake, which includes controller support and a new intro.
